Voyage Schools Collaborate To Keep Pupils Safe

Since the Go Ride scheme, a British Cycling initiative, was introduced at the academy, increasing numbers of youngsters have signed up to practice riding on the school's new bikes to ensure they maintain the skills and knowledge to stay safe while travelling.

Rebecca Adams, who is running the scheme at the academy, said: "At Park Academy we understand the importance of not only a healthy lifestyle but also road and bicycle safety.

"We are always striving to ensure that our children understand the benefits of cycling, so have invested resources into purchasing 30 brand new bikes of varying sizes to provide pupils with opportunities to increase their knowledge about not only riding a bike safely, but also its safe upkeep.

"We have been running two clubs for Years 3 to 6, which have been at full capacity. We are hoping that the number of attendees will continue to grow and flourish.

"As we are experiencing darker nights currently we are also allocating time within the school day, where possible, to help children embed the lessons they have learned via various cycling activities - which will help them maintain their skills.

"We will also be working alongside Haven High Academy, which like our school is part of the Voyage Education Partnership. Our partnership with Haven High will see us regularly consulting and collaborating with their staff team to ensure that our children are as well-equipped as possible when they leave Park Academy to get to a secondary school safely on a bike."  

The school said that its pupils had enjoyed the club sessions so far and that they continue to grow in popularity.
